ABOUT WEY WEST DISPUTE RESOLUTION

Wey West Dispute Resolution was founded to foster the independent resolution of commercial disputes between health care providers and health care payers. Its principal, Emily Wey, was a practicing transactional and regulatory attorney for 25 years. As a result, she has a particular focus in the health care industry and on payment for health care services in the United States.

Representative arbitration matters include:

  • $10M dispute between national payer and national for-profit health system; multi-year case settled the week before hearing
  • Several ongoing payment disputes between payers and (1) hospital systems, (2) pharmacies and other specialty providers, and (3) physician groups – claimed damages range from six to eight figures
  • $3M dispute between southwest regional payer and southwest regional hospital system; case proceeded through hearing and award
  • Appointment as arbitrator in $10M dispute between specialty pharmacy and national PBM
  • Serving as an arbitrator in emergency (Rule 38) cases determining appropriateness of provider termination by national payer
  • Served as an arbitrator, through award, of physician employment and compensation dispute

ABOUT EMILY WEY

Emily Wey is a commercial arbitrator specializing in health care payment disputes and trained extensively in both arbitration/mediation fundamentals and complex case management. Emily is a panel member of both the American Arbitration Association (payor-provider and commercial dispute panels) and American Health Law Association dispute resolution services; she is a member of the governing Council of the American Health Law Dispute Resolution Service.  Prior to founding of Wey West Dispute Resolution, Emily served as arbitrator in multiple cases ranging from physician employment disputes to payment disputes between national health systems and national payers, including cases proceeding to hearing; cases ranged from $50,000 to $10M.  As a neutral in health care disputes, Emily utilizes 25 years of experience in private firm health care practice groups and as in-house counsel for large providers and large payers to specialize in payer-provider dispute resolution.

  • 60-hour American Arbitration Association arbitrator training
  • Multi-day American Arbitration Association training on complex case management
  • 40-hour mediation training
  • American Arbitration Association training on managing multi-party mediations
  • Yearly continuing training on arbitration and mediation current topics
